Giuliani Settles Defamation Case, Agrees To Keep Properties And Cease Harmful Claims

by Celia

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and personal lawyer to Donald Trump, has reached a legal settlement with two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea Moss, over defamatory claims Giuliani made regarding their involvement in the 2020 election. As part of the agreement, Giuliani has pledged not to defame the election workers again and will retain his Florida condominium and Manhattan apartment.

In exchange for this settlement, Freeman and Moss will receive compensation, though the exact amount has not been disclosed. This agreement follows a $148 million judgment where a judge ruled that Giuliani had defamed Freeman and Moss by falsely accusing them of rigging the election to help Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump.

While Giuliani did not admit liability or wrongdoing in the settlement, he agreed to a mutual pledge to refrain from any future defamatory actions towards Freeman and Moss. Giuliani’s lawyer, Joseph Cammarata, confirmed the terms of the deal, adding that Giuliani would retain the Palm Beach condo and his Manhattan apartment, two assets that had been contested during the legal proceedings.

Giuliani, who filed for bankruptcy last year after the judgment, had already surrendered some of his assets, including his Upper East Side apartment, to partially satisfy the defamation judgment. The settlement now ensures that the former mayor will not face further legal battles over these properties or be forced to surrender personal items like his New York Yankees World Series rings.

In a statement, Freeman and Moss shared that the settlement will allow them to “move forward with our lives.” They also expressed satisfaction with the agreement, which has ended the prolonged legal conflict. The two women were accused by Giuliani in 2020 of tampering with ballots in a widely circulated video, claims which were later proven false.

The settlement marks the end of a contentious legal battle and allows both parties to avoid a trial. Giuliani has also been held in contempt of court for failing to comply with previous orders in the case.
