An Upstate New York lawmaker is pushing for a new federal holiday in honor of former President Donald Trump’s birthday. U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, a Republican from Cleveland, introduced a bill that would make June 14, Trump’s birthday, a federal holiday known as “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day.”
June 14 is already recognized as Flag Day, which celebrates the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777. However, Flag Day is not a federal holiday.
Tenney, who represents New York’s 24th Congressional District, compared Trump to George Washington, saying the former president’s contributions to the nation are monumental.
“No modern president has been more pivotal for our country than Donald J. Trump,” Tenney said. “As both the 45th and 47th President, his leadership during times of international and domestic turmoil shaped the course of American history. From the historic Abraham Accords to the largest tax relief package, his impact is undeniable.”
The bill would make Trump’s birthday a national day of recognition, much like George Washington’s Birthday, which is a federal holiday. Presidents’ Day, as it is now called, is designated as “Washington’s Birthday” in U.S. Code and includes closures for federal employees, government offices, schools, and most banks.
Tenney aims to pass the “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day Holiday Establishment Act” by 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.
“By making Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day a federal holiday, we can ensure that both his contributions and the significance of the American Flag are remembered in law,” Tenney added.
