More Americans are backing policies that limit the rights of transgender people.
Since taking office, President Donald Trump has introduced several executive orders impacting transgender individuals. These measures include banning trans women and girls from participating in women’s sports and cutting federal funding for gender transition health care for youth.
The latest survey, which gathered responses from 5,097 U.S. adults between February 10-17, 2025, shows strong support for laws and policies that enforce such restrictions:
66% of adults favor requiring transgender athletes to compete on teams based on their sex assigned at birth.
56% support banning healthcare providers from offering gender transition care to minors.
Despite this, 56% of adults also show support for policies that protect transgender individuals from discrimination in areas like employment, housing, and public spaces.
The survey shows a shift in public opinion, with more Americans now favoring restrictions on transgender people compared to previous years.
