A new study has revealed that Miami ranks 5th among U.S. cities for road rage incidents. Many drivers experience frustration, distractions, and even anger during rush hour, but for some, these feelings escalate into violent road rage.
The analysis, conducted by Angel Ryes & Associates law firm in Dallas, Texas, examined 100 cities across the country. Factors such as commuting stress, wasted time, inefficiencies in transportation, and violent outbursts like shootings and reckless driving citations were considered to determine each city’s road rage score.
“Commuting in congested urban areas often triggers road rage due to stress and frustration. Long hours in traffic, delays, and time pressure amplify negative emotions,” the study explained. “Drivers feel a lack of control, leading to impatience. Poorly timed traffic signals, construction zones, and reckless driving further increase aggression.”
Miami earned a total road rage score of 56.15. The city had some of the highest commute times and commuter dissatisfaction among the top 20 cities with the most road rage. Its reckless driving and shooting scores were also moderate.
Other cities in the top five include Houston, Texas (ranked 1st), Los Angeles, California (2nd), Chicago, Illinois (3rd), and Nashville, Tennessee (4th).
While Florida cities dominated the list for road rage incidents, none ranked among the cities with the least road rage. Lincoln, Nebraska, had the fewest road rage incidents, followed by Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Omaha, Nebraska, Bakersfield, California, and Boise City, Idaho.
The study used data from sources like Numbeo, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Gun Violence Archive, and the U.S. Census to compile the rankings.
