A man pleaded guilty to murder on Monday for his role in a 2022 mass shooting during an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, a Chicago suburb, which resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to more than 40 others. Robert Crimo III entered the guilty plea just before his trial was set to begin, according to local media reports.
Crimo’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 23, and he faces a mandatory life prison sentence under the law. Crimo was accused of climbing onto the roof of a building in downtown Highland Park, approximately 25 miles north of Chicago, and opening fire on spectators and participants during the parade.
Among the victims were a synagogue teacher, a Mexican grandfather, and the parents of a two-year-old child.
