Ohio Lawyer Sentenced To 37 Months For Using Fake Identities To Secure Law Firm Jobs

A former Ohio attorney, Richard Louis Crosby III, was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison after using fraudulent identities to land jobs at seven law firms. Crosby, 37, impersonated a U.S.

Marine, a college football player, and a former attorney from the prestigious Kirkland & Ellis law firm. He was also ordered to repay over $170,000 to the firms he defrauded and banned from applying for lawyer jobs for three years.

In July 2024, Crosby pleaded guilty to three counts of Social Security fraud. Between 2021 and 2023, he used false names, including “Richard Williams,” and personal information from his father, girlfriend, and a deceased individual to secure employment.

Crosby was hired by a Miami law firm in 2022, earning a salary of $185,000, and later worked at a California law firm with a $250,000 salary after falsely claiming to have connections to Kirkland & Ellis and the University of Michigan football team.

His fraud was uncovered in March 2023 when an investigator exposed his true identity.
